Founded in 2006, Silversmith continues to develop and is at the forefront of experimental performance. Our ethos is informed by an emphasis on the live experience.

Silversmith collaborates with new artists from diverse backgrounds on individual projects. Previous collaborators have included composer John Chambers, Catherine Pinhorn of Pindrop Theatre, Cloud Dance and Trumpet Player Chris Dowding.

Lorraine Smith is a dance practitioner trained in choreography and contemporary dance, and is a member of traditional Palestinian and Lebanese dance troupe Al Zaytouna. Lorraine has worked as Choreographer in Residence for The Studio and Newington Dance Space, Collaborative Artist for The Importance of Elsewhere, choreographer and co-director for interdisciplinary play In the Shadows of Senghor and movement mentor for the performance installation Sundogs.

As a performer Lorraine has worked in numerous dance works, costume and photography projects, installations, and films by artists including Johann Bjorgvinsson, Oriana Fox, Sylvia Ferreira Dance Company, Alison Jackson and Stefan Maria Marb.

Lorraine also facilitates dance work throughout a range of educational and community settings, employing a nurturing and inclusive approach to inspire creativity. Lorraine currently teaches for Magpie Dance, Artburst, Cheer UK, other freelance roles and is a professional member of the Foundation for Community Dance.

Lorraine has a MA in Choreography from the Laban Centre, and a 1st Class BA (Hon's) in Dance Studies from University College Chichester.
