Silversmith Dance

Under the artistic direction of choreographer Lorraine Smith and composer John Chambers, Silversmith Dance Theatre is committed to creating dance theatre through artistic collaborations. The company’s work focuses upon human themes and narratives, inviting the audience to explore the worlds of interesting characters, stories and environments, to create thought-provoking contemporary work. Silversmith collaborates with new performers and artists on each project to keep the work fresh and constantly evolving. The current production includes collaborative members Newington Dance Collective, composer Nico Bentley, Catherine Pinhorn of Pindroptheatre and 3 experimental trumpet players.

Artistic director/Choreographer

Lorraine Smith is a dance practitioner trained in contemporary and expressive dance, and is part of the Newington Collective, Animate: SPACE and the traditional Palestinian and Lebanese dance troupe Al Zaytouna. As a performer Lorraine has worked in numerous dance works, installations and films by artists including Johann Bjorgvinsson, Amandine Vighi, Sylvia Ferreira Dance Company, Stefan Maria Marb and The Silent Collective. Lorraine has also worked as Choreographer in Residence for The Studio, Collaborative Artist for The Importance of Elsewhere, choreographer and co-director for interdisciplinary play In the Shadows of Senghor and movement mentor for The Voice of Things - Toilet Paper.

Composer

John Chambers is a Composer, Conductor, and Improvising Musician. His compositional output is wide and eclectic, ranging from pieces for amateurs, choral and orchestral concert works, electronic music and musique concrete, to jazz arrangements and popular song. He has just completed his studies with Alwynne Pritchard at Trinity College of Music, where he was awarded numerous prizes including the John Halford and Daryl Runswick Composition awards. John has written fanfares for several important formal occasions, including the re-opening of the Royal Observatory by Her Majesty the Queen. His works have been performed by Brian Thomson and Adam Wright (RPO), Natasha Lohan (Crash Ensemble), and have been conducted by Gregory Rose. He has extensive experience writing for the stage, and especially enjoys collaborating in Dance Theatre projects.
